The real question is do we as a nation have a right to know who is coming into our country and do we have the right to decide who can come into our country? Immigration should benefit America. Immigration isn't a charity program. We bring in people from other countries to help our country. We want people who are coming in to fill jobs in industries that are having trouble finding Americans to fill. We want the best and brightest from around the world. We want a diverse immigration population with people coming from both poor and rich countries. And we should bring in people based on merit and not family status. And people coming into our country should be able to support themselves without government assistance. We bring in a million legal immigrants every year. But just because someone wants to come here to get a better life doesn't mean they can break our laws to do it. Get in line.
And to continue to allow illegal immigrants to come into our country illegally "to do jobs Americans won't do" is basically supporting slavery. Because businesses are able to high cheap labor, in poor working conditions and threaten to deport them if they complain. It is immoral to allow that system to continue. We need to close the border so more people aren't used as basic slave labor.
Walls work. Isreal built a 440 mile wall at the West Bank and terrorist attacks have been cut by over 90%. The same with the fences at Gaza that have cut illegal immigration by 90%. A wall will make it harder for drugs, sex traffickers, and gangs to get through. It deters people from even trying.
From the Department of Homeland Security: "Walls Work. When it comes to stopping drugs and illegal aliens from crossing our borders, border walls have proven to be extremely effective. Border security relies on a combination of border infrastructure, technology, personnel and partnerships with law enforcement at the state, local, tribal, and federal level. For example, when we installed a border wall in the Yuma Sector, we have seen border apprehensions decrease by 90 percent."
Unlike legal immigrants who overstay their VISA we don't know who is coming into our country on the border. The wall protects landowners on the border and makes the job easier and safer for border security. And you don't need 2000 miles of wall as many areas are too remote for anyone to cross and others have enough border agents to cover the area. Fact is if it stops 1 gang member from killing an American isn't it worth it?
Most estimates say the wall would cost between $14 to $20 billion. That is nothing compared to the $1 trillion Obama spent on his failed Stimulus package. Trump has only asked for $5.7 billion. But let us put the $5.7 billion and $20 billion into perspective. The federal budget is $4.4 trillion. At the $5.7 billion we are talking about less than 0.1%. At $20 billion we are still talking less than 1%. It would be like a couple that makes $44000 a year getting a divorce over spending $57 or $200. Israel has spent about $3 million per mile on their borders. If we follow their guide for our border you are talking about $3.3 billion as we need about 1100 miles of actual border fencing, wall, and barriers.
Walls, fences, and barriers work. This is really not an argument. Even President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Chuck Schumer all supported border fencing and barriers before Trump ran for office. We need to close our borders, because we are a sovereign nation and deserve to know who are coming into our country.
