Why am I a Christian? I could likely write an entire book on this subject. There are many reasons, facts, and beliefs why a person should be a Christian. For me it comes to two simple principles. You may agree or disagree, but for me it works.
First I believe there is a God, because the other option is a dead end. My faith that there is a God gives me hope of an afterlife. The difference between me and an atheist is that if I’m wrong about God, then when I die it won’t matter. I’ll be dead, so I won’t know. If the atheist is wrong, then it will matter. The atheist will have to answer to God. The belief in God gives life meaning and purpose. I would rather live my life with the hope of a lie, than the despair of a truth.
I believe in God, but why the Christian God? Why not the gods of Islam, Hindu, or Buddhism? My biggest reason is that my God, Jesus Christ died for me. All the other religions focus on what we do for God, but with Christianity the focus is on what God has done for us. No matter what blessings we say God has given, the greatest blessing was that God loved us enough to die for us.
That is it. I believe in God, because it gives me hope. I choose Jesus as my God, because he died for me. This is what I fall back on when everything around me falls apart. It really is this simple.
John 3:16; “For God so loved the world that he gave His only Son. That whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life.”
