My first TEA Party event was a Tax Day TEA Party. I was able to attend the event in my home town of Columbus, Indiana. While it was cold, it was a great event. The focus of the event was spent on a new tax system, lower taxes, and cutting government wasteful spending. There was a young boy about the age of eleven that gave a great speech on his experience to Washington D.C. and about what he has learned from the American Revolution. Mike Sodrel, Travis Hankins, and Mike Pence all spoke at the event. Unlike the Occupy Wall Street protests these Tax Day TEA Parties were peaceful, non-violent, pro-American, and bipartisan.
TEA Party is supposed to mean Taxed Enough Already. The original purpose of the TEA Party movement was Americans coming together against government over spending and over taxation. The idea was to try to be bipartisan. Unfortunately the TEA Party has changed. Now it has really just become the conservative wing of the republican party. Instead of only focusing on government spending and taxes it has expanded into immigration, national defense, gay marriage, abortion, and other social issues. I'm not saying these things aren't important, but I wished the TEA Party had remained focused on just government spending and taxes. Because the fact is when it comes to government wasteful spending and over taxation both the democratic and republican parties are doing a terrible job.
