Tourmaline

Tourmaline is the alternative birthstone for October and the anniversary stone of the 8th anniversary.  Tourmaline has unlimited colors and even bi-colors, and mixed colors.  The word tourmaline comes from the Sinhalese word turmali.  18th century lore says that tourmaline keeps the wearer from misfortune and protects travelers against falls. On a personal note I have a pink tourmaline as my birthstone in my class ring.  It is very small, so it looks okay for a guy.
