We are being mutilated and divided by the media. In 2015, there were around 1000 police shootings. Of those 73% were of white and Hispanic, 26% were black. Blacks make up about 15% of the population. But the reason why police shootings of blacks are higher than the population is because according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, blacks account for 62% of all robberies, 57% of murders and 45% of assaults. Blacks also account for 40% of cop killers. Because of the high crime rate in the black community this means police are dealing with more criminals compared to its overall population.
But fact is more non-blacks and specifically whites have been killed by police. But when was the last time we saw the media report on police killing a white suspect? When was the last time a politician was outraged over the police shooting a white person? Why is it that the national media only report police shootings of black suspects? It goes back to the old saying, "if it bleeds it leads."
The media and some politicians want to devide us and create racial tension. They are doing it to drive ratings and gain votes. We have a real issue with our inner cities and violence. But we aren't talking about that or about the kids that are being killed? No, we are talking about athletes not standing for the national anthem, because they have no clue about the real issues facing the black community. Like black on black crime, poverty, 70% of black kids growing up without a father, and failing schools. Instead of focusing on how we can really help the black community, we are focused on a few police shootings.
There were over 16000 murders in 2015. Compare that to the fact that less than 250 blacks people were killed by police. This doesn't mean that we shouldn't be doing more to limit police shootings. But protesting to support guys shot by police that almost all have criminal records doesn't help. And riots and the destruction of businesses makes it even worse. And million dollar athletes taking a knee during the National Anthem isn't helping.
The media and some politicians want to tear us apart, but we are all Americans. We all want to live in safe neighborhoods and have good paying jobs. Don't let the media, politicians, or athletes divide us as a nation. Don't let them mutilate us.
