I see in articles and management training that people don't leave companies they leave bad leaders. I think people over estimate people leaving because of bad leaders. I think people leave just as often because of bad companies as they do bad leaders. But companies and business experts have pushed this idea on managers that if people leave it is their fault. But even the best managers and leaders will struggle to keep top talent if the company is paying below industry average, has poor benefits, doesn't have a good work life balance, and/or doesn't give the tools or training employees need to grow. Also companies that don't promote from within will see people leave if they don't see advancement opportunities.
Bad Company + Good Leaders = People Leaving
Good Company + Bad Leaders = People Leaving
Companies should hold managers and leaders accountable for how they treat employees, but should also look at the company culture, pay, benefits, and how it compares to others in their industry.
