Flatten the Curve

How is it safe to be in a Walmart or Lowes, but not safe to be in your local small business?

The purpose of the shutdown was to flatten the curve of infections to keep hospitals from becoming overrun.  And it worked.  By limiting the places people could shop it meant that you limited the exposure to people that worked in stores.  No it didn't eliminate all risk, but we decreased the risk 25% to 30%.  And that was the result we wanted to flatten the curve.
