Don't get me wrong, I think it is good when companies give money to charity. But at the same time if companies invested that money to hire people wouldn't that be more helpful. I remember when I worked for Macy's how much they gave to charity. While that was great I also remember them letting me and many others go, because they needed to downsize to save money. Instead of giving that money to charity they might have saved some jobs. Charity is good, but a job is better.
It's the same thing with government. If the government took less in taxes, then I and others would have more to take care of our families. And businesses would have more money to keep people employed.
God called on the church to talk care of the poor. Not the government or businesses. Again I'm not saying businesses giving to charity is a bad thing, but investing in hiring more people might actually be better.
