My wife used to work for Sunglass Hut. When she first started she bought me a pair of Ray Ban. I have had these sunglasses for over 6 years. She got a few for herself while working there and all have stood the test of time. I've worked in the jewelry and clothing business for years. I've found that the higher end and name brand products usually last a lot longer. You get what you pay for in any product. I've had a bunch of cheap sunglasses that fell apart in a few months. But a good pair of sunglasses can last for years. The same is true for clothes, cars, jewelry, tools, electronics, and more. Quality products will cost a little more, but they will last a lot longer. When you buy a name brand product you aren't just paying for a name you are also buying the quality craftsmanship behind that name.
