“When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous have a refuge,” (Proverbs 14:32).
I am sure you remember when the son of former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy killed himself. After the funeral service for his son, Coach Dungy addressed the media.
“We loved our son very much. He loved us. And we miss him terribly. But we also understand that we have some tremendous promises from God. God promises to be with us. He’s with us in the great times. He’s with us in the tough times. Our family will stand strong. The strength that we have in the Lord will allow us to get through this just as we get through times of victory.”
“When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous have a refuge.”
Coach Dungy reminds us that in God we have a refuge. He reminds us that if we trust in the Lord, He will comfort us.
Nahum 1:7 reads, “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”
Christ did not say that we would not suffer or not have times of trouble. In fact He told us we would have trouble, but he promised us peace in Him.
In John 16:33, Jesus says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
