Solution to Welfare:
There are 110 million Americans on some kind of welfare. That is about 1/3 of our population. We spend about 1 trillion every year on welfare. That averages out to about $9000 per person per year. The average household size that gets welfare it 3.7. So the average amount we spend on welfare per household is about $33,000 per year.
Now I'm not saying households that get welfare gets this kind of money. Unfortunately of the 1 trillion we spend $54 billion is spent on illegal immigrants and another $125 billion is lost to waste, fraud, and abuse. Another $200 billion is spent on the cost to actually run all the programs. So about 1/3 of the money doesn't even get to the people we're trying to help. So now your talking about household only getting about $22,000 per year.
What if instead of all these government programs we took that $22,000 and gave it as a tax credit for a business that they hire from a head of household on welfare as long as they pay that person at least $33,000 a year. The business gets $22,000 free payroll. People on welfare would be getting good paying jobs and paying taxes. The government would save about $400 billion, businesses could afford to hire more workers, and people would have job and learn skills and gain experience.
I'm not saying that I've got this 100% nailed down. My point is this: instead of having dozens and dozens of welfare programs, the government needs to spend more time getting people good jobs. A job is the best defense against poverty.
